Hi there!

My name is Calla. A little about me:

I am a writer. My insistence on finding the "story" in all aspects of life forged my path from the beginning. At ten years old, I delivered a graduation speech at the request of a teacher who recognized my natural inclination. He encouraged me to express my voice and humor, often hidden behind a shy, awkward, pre-teen personality. I'll never forget how it felt to read my words out loud. That was my first moment of creative empowerment.

Fast forward, I graduated with a BA in English Literature and a minor in Business Administration from the University of Arizona. Then, I set down the winding road of grocery retail for several years. Interacting with customers every day prepared me in unexpected ways when I eventually fulfilled my dream — becoming a full-time writer.

Currently, I am an in-house copywriter for a dental laboratory and technology company called Glidewell. Unless you're in the dental industry, you've probably never heard of it. (I promise you, it's a big deal!) Glidewell is among the world's top producers of custom restorative services and continuing education for dental professionals. Recognized internationally as a leader in R&D, it is also the birthplace of BruxZir Zirconia — a material that has revolutionized access to high-quality and affordable restorations.

When I first started at Glidewell, my knowledge of dentistry was limited to my experiences as a patient. In order to succeed, I had to quickly master clinical topics and become a subject matter expert in my product verticals. The experience has accelerated my writing skills exponentially and given me an understanding of effective marketing practices.

When I'm not in the office, you can find me out on a trail or at a beachside cafe. I live in Irvine but I get down to my hometown of San Diego as much as possible. In the future, I have aspirations to move to the Pacific Northwest. My love of art and expression is matched only by my love of the great outdoors.

I combine my personal and professional work on this website because I believe every project is a lesson. I learn from poetry, I learn from making YouTube videos. At the heart of it all is a story. My story. Someday, I hope to be a part of yours!
